Enjoy flexible working at the British High Commission

“Having used flexible working extensively during my time in London, I am a strong believer in its benefits.  I am convinced that it can not only help staff enjoy a better work/life balance, but also deliver greater productivity. That said, there will clearly be areas of work, where the scope for flexible working is circumscribed - an obvious example would be Visa services, which already uses shift working and other systems extensively, but, which will not be able to adjust its arrangements as much as some other parts of the BHC”. Sir Richard Stagg

Staff reactions- anonymous

• Great, I do not mind working late hours and get an extra day off.

• I think it’s a strategy to get the very best out of the staff- to provide a flexible work atmosphere so that the employee is mentally at peace and delivers better.

• Flexible work hours make a lot of sense for working parents in nuclear families. One parent can work 10am-6pm and is in charge of the children before school/daycare, while the other parent works 8am-4pm and is in charge of the children after school/daycare.

• Flexitime can gives me greater freedom to organise my work life to suit personal needs. It leads to a greater work-life balance.

• Travelling to work can be much more comfortable as I can avoid peak traffic hours.

• I am pursuing higher education. With flexi-time, I can manage both my work and studies better.
