How to register a death

Death Registration - Documentation required:

  • Completed Death Registration Form
  • municipal death certificate of the deceased (with a notarised English translation where applicable); 
  • cremation or burial certificate; 
  • doctor's/hospital report detailing cause of death; 
  • passport and nationality certificate of the deceased; 
  • Fee in cash if you are calling personally at the Consular Section Counter (Fees can be found on the fee listing page . If you wish to pay by the post please send a bank draft made payable to "British High Commission" (for applications from North and South India); "British Deputy High Commission Mumbai" (for applications from West India) or "British Deputy High Commission Kolkata" (for applications from East India). An additional fee of Rs 100/- is payable if the passport is to be sent by post.
