Mrs Vicki Treadell arrived in Mumbai on 3 February 2006 to take over as the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mumbai, covering Western India. Mrs Treadell comes to Mumbai from a strong business and commercial background. Her first appointment on joining the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1979 was with the Economic Relations Department, and for the past ten years she has been seconded at a senior level to UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the British government’s overseas commercial arm.
Prior to this Mrs Treadell was in the UK as UKTI’s Director for the North West of England since 2002, responsible for the strategic direction of trade development as a key driver of regional economic development. She also served, between 1998 – 2002, as Deputy Director, Corporate Resources Group of British Trade International and Head of the Professionalism in Trade Unit at the Joint Export Promotion Directorate set up jointly by the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Department of Trade & Industry.
Mrs Treadell also has a wide range of diplomatic experience. From 1986 – 1990 she was posted to Kuala Lumpur and earlier, from 1981- 1983, to Islamabad. In the interim while at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London she worked on policy issues for Western Europe and Latin America, as well as in the office of the FCO’s Permanent Under Secretary of State.
Mrs Treadell was awarded Membership of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) in 1989. Born in Malaysia she speaks Bahasa and Cantonese. She has travelled extensively both on business and for pleasure. Her interests include reading, art and photography.
