The Strategic Programme Fund (SPF) - formerly the Global Opportunities Fund - was established in 2003 to support the UK’s international goals.

The purpose of Strategic Programme Fund (SPF) is to promote action on global issues in areas of strategic importance to the UK. SPF funds projects around the world relating to the HMG’s departmental strategic objectives (DSOs).

Our projects involve a range of stakeholders – from federal and state governments to civil society and NGOs – helping us reach out to new partners.

In the future we will focus our efforts more tightly on our main policy goals, which are to:

• counter terrorism, weapons proliferation and their causes

• promote a low carbon, high growth global economy

• prevent and resolve conflict; and

• develop effective international institutions, above all the UN and EU
